Doug "Cloud 9" Anderson is the founder of Cloud 9 Superstore.

Cloud 9 store, 1962.
From a family of retailers, the Great Depression forced closure of the family store in 1931. Afterwards, Doug sold items on street corners to help his family survive. During WW2, Doug served in the Navy's procurement division in Savannah, Georgia. His cheerful disposition earned him the nickname "Cloud 9." Leaving the Navy in 1944, he supplied canteens at the Naval Station Great Lakes. In March 1948, Anderson opened the first store Cloud 9 on Chicago Avenue in Evanston, Illinois. The decision to name the store "Cloud 9" was done at the last minute at the business licensing office. ("Sandra's Fight")
