The staff scramble to prepare the store, hours before the re-opening. Amy and Jonah deal with their kiss and Jonah tries to find a place to live.
Plot[]
Or do they have different roles?
Two months after the tornado that destroyed Cloud 9 Store 1217, the store is being rebuilt. Glenn is addressing the staff in the store but is having a hard time as he is in the way of the construction workers. Marcus has been rehired as has Henry but the other four employees who were laid off (Chris, Alex, Cody, Justine) are not seen. Glenn ponders why the tornado stopped when he prayed to Allah and what role Allah has compared to Jesus. He moves the staff through various places in the under construction store including the Break Room but each time is interrupted by noise, workers or other distractions. Finally, he finishes his talk outside, 20 minutes away from the store. As everyone starts the walk back to the store, Glenn launches into a morning cheer.
Classic Marcus.
While stocking shelves, Jonah tells Cheyenne that the tornado destroyed his apartment building and he is living in a FEMA trailer. Garrett rolls by and Cheyenne suggests that Jonah move in with him. Garrett is clearly uncomfortable with the suggestion and makes excuses why Jonah can't move in. Carol drops a large box that nearly hits Sandra and gives an insincere apology. Jonah and Amy have an uncomfortable conversation as they are stocking shelves and try to convince themselves that they don't need to talk about their kiss during the tornado. It's so uncomfortable that when Marcus walks by, they enthusiastically ask him to hang out much to his surprise.
Yeah, well good luck on radio.
In Glenn's Office, Glenn is on the phone with Jeff and is shocked to find out that the store opening is that day, not in a week's time. Jeff says he'll see Glenn at 3:00pm for the opening and that Howie Mandel will be appearing. He shares the email with Amy and Dina and they argue over whether the wording is clear or not. As the P.A. system isn't working, Garrett yells that the store is opening in four hours so the staff speed up their activities. Amy gathers some staff and emphasizes speed over quality while Cheyenne wants both and Myrtle offers "slow and bad". Mateo is concerned to hear Jeff is coming to the store having broken up with him and then called him during the tornado to say he was still in love with him.
Vest, tag, produce!
In the bathroom, Garrett rolls in and sees Jonah washing his upper body in the sink. Jonah explains he can't shower in the mornings in the FEMA trailer and looks at Garrett expectantly. Garrett stares back and rolls into a stall. Dina is on the phone when Howie walks into the store. She doesn't know who he is and thinks he's a new hire. She won't listen to his protests and assigns him to work in produce. Glenn is berating Earl's work on stocking a shelf so in order to distract him, Amy asks how his speech for the store opening is going. Glenn didn't realize he needed to make one and he leaves in a huff. Mateo wonders aloud to Cheyenne what he's going to say to Jeff and whether Jeff got his message. Cheyenne says they should recreate the tornado sounds with a big fan and test if Mateo can be heard over it.
I'm doing a test!
Amy needs help unloading a truck and to avoid Jonah, picks Myrtle instead. Marcus sympathizes and says Jonah can stay at his place. However, his description of what they'd be doing a roommates creeps Jonah out. Glenn confides to Garrett that he's nervous about his speech which Garrett takes to mean that it's due to Glenn's high voice. Glenn looks confused until he listens to a recording of his voice with Amy and Jonah. He can't understand why his voice sounds high on the recording but they are interrupted by Dina who has found Minions costumes. She tells Amy and Jonah to pick them up and when they protest, she lists reasons why other staff can't. In Jonah's car, Amy comments how uncomfortable the situation is. Mateo is sitting by a large fan and yelling "I love you!" on his phone to Cheyenne to test if she can hear him. Roombas are milling around in an aisle. (♫ Insane in the Brain – Cypress Hill ♫)
Nice rug.
Howie is eating carrots when Dina comes to apologize for not knowing who he is. He's OK with it until she orders him to straighten up the registers. While picking up the Minion costumes Jonah asks if he and Amy are still friends. She says yes but he wonders why they didn't talk in the car. She admits things are awkward and that she doesn't know how to act around him anymore. In the parking lot, Glenn is testing the microphone with a voice modulator that makes his voice sound deeper. The opening is nigh but Dina says they need another hour so Glenn will have to stall. Jeff shows up and is wearing a toupee which causes everyone to gape at him.
Get thirsty my friends.
At the opening, Glenn makes a short, nervous speech so Jeff goes to cut the ribbon and let customers in the store. To stall, Glenn asks Howie to perform but he indicates he's only been paid to appear. In the store, Dina is loudspeakering a countdown while the staff frantically work. Glenn stalls by relating movie bloopers while in the Break Room, Amy and Jonah struggle trying to get into the Minion costumes. However, the Pharmacy opens, the registers are manned and though the products are not pleasantly displayed, the store opens.
I'm kidding!
Amy and Jonah are greeting customers while wearing the Minion costumes and Amy tells Jonah that she and Adam are getting divorced. Jonah offers to talk but Amy asks if he'd like to have sex. After a pause she says she's kidding. Mateo approaches Jeff and finds out he's back with his ex. Mateo insults his toupee and leaves. A customer runs into a cardboard stand-up that looks like an aisle. (♫ Earth, Wind & Fire – Earth, Wind & Fire ♫) Seeing Jonah talking to Glenn about staying with him, Garrett relents and says Jonah can live with him and then starts listing the rules he has to follow.
Jeff gets back with his ex-boyfriend Chad for this episode only.
Goof: At the store front, after Glenn timidly welcomes everyone to the store, Jeff approaches the microphone holding garden shears to cut the ceremonial ribbon. The camera cuts to the crowd for a second and when it cuts back to Jeff, the shears are now leaning against one of the ribbon poles and Jeff retrieves them.
